Department of Alchemy & Magickal Sciences (Red)

Welcome to the World of Alchemy & Magickal Sciences! This Department concerns the science of magic and the magic of science, especially transmutation and transformation. The forerunner of modern chemistry, Alchemy has roots in Egypt, Greek, and the Middle East. Historically, alchemists sought to turn base metals into gold, to formulate an Elixer of Life which would grant immortality, and to create an artificial man called a homunculus. The inner Mysteries of Alchemy concerned the transformation and perfection of the soul. Contemporary aspects of these studies include metallurgy and philosophy, life extension studies, robotics and artificial intelligence. Other topics include soapmaking, home brewing, technomagicks, nonmedicinal aspects of aromatherapy, chemistry, and additional areas where magic and science overlap through the manipulation of substances or objects.
It is the mission of this Department to provide a forum for the systematic pursuit of Alchemy and the Magickal Sciences as paths for personal transformation. The Department and its Professors and Senior Students act as Teachers, Mentors and Guides to those seeking to understand the most profound of mysteries - those from which all Magick - indeed all human endeavors have sprung...
"Solve et Coagula" - The Alchemists Mantra of Dissolve and Coagulate forms the fundamental theme for the coursework in this department. Students will be asked to repeatedly examine their knowledge and beliefs - and be willing to examine and experience something new - often about themselves, while undergoing the processes of learning and growing.
The color of this Department is Red, associated with Physical work, as in healing of people and animals. Also physical passion. Red is the power color. It is associated with command, the planet Mars, Tuesday, the astrological sign of Gemini and the 1st (Root) Chakra. Red is the color of fire, inspiration, vitality, pride, anger, bravery, strong emotions, purification, arid places, aggressive music (especially drumming like a heartbeat), and lightning storms. Red is also associated with Alchemy and the magickal arts and sciences of transformation. Red is the best color to ward off danger. Use it for stability, grounding, prosperity and physical health.
The Alchemist's Riddle- do you know the answer?
"The key to life and death is everywhere to be found, but if you do not find it in your own house, you will find it nowhere. Yet, it is before everyone's eyes; no one can live without it; everyone has used it. The poor usually possess more of it than the rich; children play with it in the streets. The meek and uneducated esteem it highly, but the privileged and learned often throw it away. When rejected, it lies dormant in the bowels of the earth. It is the only thing from which the Philosopher's Stone can be prepared, and without it, no noble metal can ever be created."
